During a meeting in Azerbaijan, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on Israel to cease expanding settlements in the occupied West Bank and to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. According to China’s Foreign Ministry, Wang emphasized that the Palestinian issue is a significant historical injustice and advocated for a political resolution to the conflict.
Wang’s discussions with Israeli President Isaac Herzog were part of broader international efforts to address ongoing tensions in the region. He underscored the need for increased humanitarian access to Gaza, highlighting China’s willingness to collaborate with global partners to rejuvenate dialogue and pursue a peaceful settlement.
China has long supported a two-state solution, promoting the establishment of an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel. Beijing has also been active in fostering Palestinian reconciliation and encouraging diplomatic initiatives aimed at easing tensions across the Middle East.
In response, President Herzog noted that talks with Wang covered bilateral relations and the regional landscape, reiterating Israel’s commitment to peace while voicing security concerns, particularly regarding Iran and its allies.
The situation in Gaza remains precarious despite a ceasefire initiated in October 2025. Continued Israeli strikes, displacement, and humanitarian issues persist, with progress on the ceasefire agreement stalling amid mutual accusations of violations between Israel and Hamas.
This latest diplomatic engagement highlights ongoing international efforts to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, address humanitarian needs in Gaza, and revive stalled diplomatic negotiations.
