Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine did not receive advance notice from international allies prior to a Russian ballistic missile attack on Kyiv, which damaged civilian infrastructure. During the attack on Monday, five missiles hit civilian areas, underscoring the critical need for timely intelligence sharing to protect lives, as Zelenskyy emphasized.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha noted that while intelligence cooperation with international partners is ongoing, the lack of warning might be related to the specific type of Russian weapon used in this instance. The situation arises amid concerns about the extent of US intelligence support for Ukraine, with reports suggesting that the Trump administration had considered pausing intelligence sharing. Despite these uncertainties, Ukrainian officials continue to stress the importance of such cooperation, especially in detecting ballistic missile launches and long-range bomber activities.
In parallel, tensions are rising due to attacks on energy infrastructure. US President Donald Trump has called on Ukraine to halt strikes on Russian oil refineries and announced a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin concerning diesel supplies. Trump also mentioned a supposed agreement on an energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine; however, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine has not received confirmation of such an arrangement.
Zelenskyy accused Russia of persisting in attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities despite the reported ceasefire. He mentioned that Ukraine had temporarily ceased striking Russian energy infrastructure following the US announcement but insisted that any suspension should be reciprocal and backed by credible guarantees.
Russian military actions continue to inflict casualties and destruction across Ukraine. In a separate incident in Kharkiv, Zelenskyy reported that a residential building’s destruction resulted in the death of four people and injury of 41 others.
Amid escalating Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure, especially with the approach of winter, Ukraine has appealed to its partners for enhanced air-defense support, including the deployment of Patriot missile systems.
