At the United Nations General Assembly, Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tileuberdi emphasized the urgent need for renewed diplomatic efforts to address global conflicts and rebuild international trust. Highlighting a growing global trust deficit, Tileuberdi urged nations to prioritize diplomacy and negotiations, particularly in light of ongoing tensions such as the war in Ukraine.

Tileuberdi condemned recent drone attacks targeting Kazakh oil export infrastructure and commercial vessels in the Black Sea, cautioning that such incidents pose threats to international trade, navigation, and global energy supplies. His address underscored Kazakhstan’s commitment to resolving conflicts through peaceful means.

In discussing the Middle East, Tileuberdi reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s support for a two-state solution, advocating for an independent Palestinian state coexisting peacefully with Israel. Furthermore, Kazakhstan expressed readiness to aid in Gaza’s stabilization by supporting civilian reconstruction, food security, and the development of digital government services. Tileuberdi also announced Kazakhstan’s intention to join the Abraham Accords, signaling a commitment to regional peace initiatives.

Turning to Afghanistan, Tileuberdi highlighted the nation’s stability as integral to Central Asia’s security and development. He called for coordinated international efforts through the United Nations to provide humanitarian assistance and tackle long-term issues such as poverty and economic dependence.

On nuclear disarmament, Kazakhstan reiterated its call for progress and offered to host discussions among nuclear-armed states. Tileuberdi cited Kazakhstan’s historical experience of closing the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site and relinquishing its post-independence nuclear arsenal as a model for disarmament. He urged nuclear-armed nations to honor disarmament commitments despite existing disagreements.

In a broader call for international reform, Tileuberdi advocated for increased representation of Asia, Africa, Latin America, developing countries, and middle powers in the UN Security Council. He engaged in discussions with UN officials and foreign ministers on topics like UN reform, regional connectivity, and sustainable development in Central Asia and Afghanistan. These conversations also included the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, underscoring Kazakhstan’s role in fostering regional cooperation and development.
